Using our server's Email System

If you have been allocated an email address on the naeg.org.uk domain then these instructions are designed to help you access and process your mail.

You can access your email in two ways. (a) Via a web browser or (b) via an email application on your PC, phone or tablet.  In both cases you need to know your email address and password.

Accessing email through a web browser

Go to the following address (or click the link): https://naeg.org.uk/webmail

Our server gives you a choice of three applications (Roundcube, Horde or Squirrelmail). We strongly recommend using Roundcube. Make it the default by clicking the button.

Configuring RoundCube

You can view and process your email using the default settings, but you will find it is well worth while to take the time to configure Roundcube to make it more useable. Here are my personal preferences, which I recommend unless you have a good reason to change.

Login, go to Roundcube, and click settings.

Using RoundCube

Hints and tips
  1. To change your email password, login to Roundcube, then click the little down arrow to the right of your email address (top right). One of the options is Password and security. Click this and you can then set a new password.
  2. To delete all email in the trash folder on RoundCube: View the Trash folder. Then click the "cog" icon at the bottom left. Select Empty.
  3. Note that you have a limited quota for email. Once you are close to this quota you will start getting warnings. Please clear out old email and deleted email on a regular basis.

Note on choice of email client. We recommend Roundcube as the best compromise, offering relative simplicity and ease of use. Squirrelmail is a text only system, so you can't format your email which looks dull and old-fashioned. Horde has more functions than needed for a small organisation and is more difficult to set up, learn and use. While it has a phone interface, you are recommended to use your standard email software on a phone which will work just fine. Also we can and do provide help and support for Roundcube (for example in this document). You are on your own with the others. You can read more about the options here: https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/CKB/Which+Webmail+Application+Should+I+Choose

Accessing email through an application on your PC, tablet or phone

Please use the following settings to configure your application. Note that on phones and on tablets you should use IMAP to receive email, so it will stay on the server. On your main PC (which will contain all your old email) you are recommended to use POP3
